  • Suspended police officer Narendra Amin is attempting to circumvent his imprisonment by seeking temporary bail time and again, observed Additional Principal Sessions Judge P B Desai while rejecting his three-month bail plea on Wednesday.

Amin had sought temporary bail to study cyber forensics. He is one of the three senior policemen arrested in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case and the subsequent murder of his wife, Kausar Bi. He is lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail and has been filing temporary bail applications ever since he was denied regular bail.

Earlier, he had moved an application demanding a computer inside the jail premises to study, which was also rejected by the same court. Following this, he moved the application to get temporary bail to study cyber forensics since he was not allowed to keep a computer inside the jail.

Opposing the bail application, the prosecution argued before the court that Amin had used all the time, which he got during temporary bail on medical grounds, to enrol himself in a cyber forensics course.

Rejecting the application, the court observed: “It is fortunate that the applicant has sought to enrol himself in a course which is of three months duration. One shudders to think that if the applicant would have enroled himself for any degree course spreading over five years, he would have been emboldened to seek temporary bail for five years.”

“In my opinion, there is considerable merit in the submission made on behalf of the state that the applicant, who has been denied regular bail, is merely attempting to circumvent such order by seeking temporary bail time and again,” Justice Desai added.
