A patiala court on Monday remanded the three accused arrested for prostitution on Sunday, in judicial custody till September 12.
The police sought no remand of Gurpreet Singh, Meank Sharma and Ajit Singh, as the investigating officer in the case said there is no need for further investigation. He added that it is not the police’s job to find out who all visited sex workers in the past.
Amid allegations that the police have been easy with the accused, ASI Civil Lines Ajit Singh said there was no need for police remand as all the accused have been arrested and there was nothing more in the case.
On being asked about the phone call details of the accused, Ajit Singh said there was no need for that either.
Further, SHO Civil Lines Gurdev Dhaliwal claimed that as there was no recovery that was to be made from the arrested persons, the police did not ask for their remand. “Let’s not be bothered about who all were visiting the sex workers,” he added.
On Sunday evening, the police had raided a house opposite Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib and rounded up Amarjeet Kaur, from Sri Niwas Colony, whose house was used for running the racket.
Three men in the age group of 23 to 28 and three unmarried women about 20 years of age were also rounded up.
While both Gurpreet and Meank are from Mohindra Colony, Ajit is from Lahori Gate. The women have been identified as Neha from Urban Estate, Namandeep Kaur from SST Nagar and Mandeep Kaur from Anand Nagar.
