The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday summoned the project head of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in a case relating to the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway toll plaza.

The official has been asked appear before the court on the next date of hearing, May 9.

Unhappy with the steps taken by NHAI to de-congest the traffic on the expressway and at the toll plaza, the High Court also sought detailed status report from the agency.

Meanwhile, NHAI informed the court that it has issued a termination letter to the expressway concessionaire, Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL).

On September 4 last year, the High Court took serious note of traffic congestion at the toll plaza had banned the concessionaire from collecting the toll for 15 days.

On September 28, the court allowed the collection of toll from the private vehicles from 7 pm onwards. However, the court had barred the concessionaire from collecting toll during peak hours — 8.30 am to 10 am and 5.30 pm to 7 pm. Later, the court lifted all the bans.

DGSCL had filed a petition seeking assistance, under the Haryana State Support Agreement, on payment of requisite charges and provision of adequate space for police force to regulate traffic and also prayed to restrain police personnel from opening the boom barrier illegally, forcibly and allowing vehicles to pass through without paying toll.
