  • Municipal councillor Chandermukhi Sharma has questioned the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee’s (CPCC) decision to grant consent to a Dadumajra-based company for running the solid waste treatment plant, when the MC had already signed an agreement with Jaiprakash Associates Limited for the purpose.

The letter addressed to the Member Secretary, CPCC, read: “On perusal of records submitted before the committee constituted by the General House of the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, M/s Jaiprakash Associates Limited, vide letter dated January 31, 2006, had submitted the application demanding consent to operate the Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Plant and the consent was granted on February 20, 2006. Subsequently, you have given consent to Green-Tech Fuel Processing Plant, thereby completely changing the identity of the firm with which the MC has entered into the agreement.”

Sharma demanded the present status on the matter.

On the other hand, the CPCC said it had given its consent to Green Tech Fuel Processing Plant on May 8, 2008, as it was “a unit of Jaiprakash Associates Limited”.

While the plant was inaugurated a few months ago, its results are yet to be seen.
