There are few roads left untrodden as parties criss-cross for alliances. But CPI(M) senior leader Sitaram Yechury’s attempt to rope in the JD(U) to the Third Front has not gone down well with ally CPI, which has also been in touch with Sharad Yadav. With Yadav telling Yechury a polite no, top CPI leaders are now saying that the meeting was totally unnecessary at this juncture. They argue that Yadav, who has been keeping his cards close to his chest, had told them that his party would fight the polls with the BJP and take a fresh look at the alliance after seeing the election results. The only result of the Yechury-Yadav meeting was that the JD(U) leader was forced to issue a statement that his party was firmly with the NDA, CPI leaders say.
