In the aftermath of the Mumbai blasts, which left 182 people dead and hundreds injured, the Congress-led UPA government will have to answer several questions in the Left-UPA Co-ordination Committee meeting to be held on July 22.
A B Bardhan, CPI general secretary, today said at Kolkata,‘‘There must have been a massive inteligence failure before the Mumbai blasts in which so many innocent peole lost their lives. We have so many intelligence agencies but it seems there is no co-ordination between them. We are told that someone warned our agencies about the impending attack. Who gave the warning? Who got it? Who could not interpret it? All these things need to be dealt with. We are going to grill the government and question them on these isssues in our meeting with the UPA government.’’ Bardhan was here to attend the party’s state council meeting that ended today. A CPI parliamentary party delegation led by Gurudas Dasgupta visited Mumbai after the blasts and had talked to senior officials as well victims.
The CPI leader also said that they would also grill the government over the rising price of essential commodities. ‘‘We will urge the government to do a few things to check price rise. First, the government must stop forward trading in cereals and pulses so that private hording of such commodities can be stoppped. The Public Distribution System (PDS) should also be strengthened and commodities like kerosene and sugar should be distributed through the PDS,’’ Bardhan said. He also said that the left parties would continue their agitation against the price rise if they dod not come down.
