CPI-M to contest six seats

The CPI(M), which will be campaigning against the BJP and Congress in Gujarat, has decided to contest six seats in December 2012 Assembly polls.

Addressing mediapersons on Friday, state CPI(M) general secretary Arun Mehta said the seats to be contested by his party are Umergaon, Visavadar, Jamnagar rural, Rajkot (East), Khedbrahma and Santrampur. He said the party's election agenda was to defeat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and highlight the retrogressive economic policies of the Congress-led UPA government at the centre.

The BJP government in the state had made life miserable for the poor people by not checking the sharp rise in edible oil price and 300 per cent hike in electricity charges in the last 10 years, he said, alleging that BJP government in the state was not supporting the downtrodden and instead, favouring the rich and corporates.

On corruption, he said all political parties, barring the left, were facing crisis of credibility and morality. He said the loss of morality among the political parties was really a matter of great concern. Party's national leader and former MP Sukomal Sen was also present at the press conference.
