  • CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat got his way today as Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan was “removed” from the party Politburo on charges of “indiscipline” and “violating” organisational principle. Kerala state CPM secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, the other actor in the long-running factional feud in the state party unit, got away without any action against him.

Barely an hour after the party announced his demotion, Achuthanandan indicated that he may be down but not out. The veteran Marxist, who, having sensed the direction in which the disscussions were heading, skipped the second day of the central committee meeting today, said his stand on the SNC-Lavalin graft case remained unchanged despite the party concluding that Vijayan “was not involved in any corrupt practice whatsoever”.

Although he said he “accepted” the central committee’s decision, he remained silent on speculation that he would resign in protest, worrying a section of the leadership.

While the party has taken strong action against stalwarts like Nripen Chakraborty and P Ramamurthy in the past, this is the first time that a Chief Minister has been removed from the Politburo. The only relief Achuthanandan got was that the central committee is learnt to have directed the state unit to accept his authority as CM and not provoke him unnecessarily.

Sources close to Achuthanandan said he skipped the central committee meeting today because of a minor variation in his blood pressure. It is learnt that Karat called him up to explain the party’s decision while senior central committee member Suneet Chopra and his Politburo colleagues Vijayan and Kodiyeri Balakrishnan dropped by at Kerala House to meet him after the decision was announced.

NO POLITICIAN COMMITS CRIMES?By: B S GANESH, BANGALORE | 14-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward In my opinion no politician commits crimes and even if commited can easily escape. Former Karntaka Governor has removed the name of Dharam Singh from the list of accused prepared by Lokayuta based on facts. But Governor does not want Dharam Singh to be amn accused. This is why there is heavy rush for political jobs as they can escape from any crime. All crimes or even fake charges are to be faced by common people only.B S GANESH, BANGALORE
Joker KaratBy: Abraham Koshi | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Prakash Karat has now become a joke...
The Rich Communist Leaders of Kerala with extravaganza.By: Thomas Varghese | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Except his having the capability to speak clear English, Karat is a failure as the General Secretary of CPM. It was a mishap which Surjit did by nominating this man. Was the Bengal father and Punjabi mother culture of Karat's wife influenced Surjit to make this lousy selection? Karat is a bad judge for his party and the fate for CPM will be defeat after defeat in Kerala and West Bengal in the coming days. Unlike in Bengal, the party gave birth to a lot of "leaders' who are exceedingly rich and extravagant in their way of 'communism' !! The true communist, Achuthanandan, the CM, has no place in them and therefore goes isolated even from party meetings. Look, the irony of modern communism, established over a half century back for the workers and downtrodden.
ENACT A LAW RESTRAINING MINISTERS FROM ATTENDING PARTY MEETINGS.By: DR. COMMUNISM CHOR | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward The Communist ministry in Kerala is a big liability for the people. Governness has almost come into a standstill. Ministers are busy with party meetings; such as, State Secretariat, State Committee, Politbureau, Central Committee etc. A rough schedule of Kerala Ministers show that they spend more time in AKG Bhavan Trivandrum and AKG Centre in New Delhi than the State Secretariat. They spend more money than their counterpart elsewhere in india, for their party meetings in Delhi. A full contingent of 7-8 ministers are making trips to Delhi to attend Politbureau and central committee meetings, costing the State exchequer very dearly. This is in a state where 78% of State revenue is spend for employees' salary. There should be a Law, restraining Ministers from attending party affairs, during the pendency of their ministership.
Expected By: Muralidharan | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward The action against the Kerala C.M was expected .Pinarayi Vijayan has given the share from the loot to Prakash Karat and his wife Brinda they have been properly taken care of . Achudanandan being a clean person has now been made a scape goat for all the frauds that have taken place in the communist ruled Kerala . Pinayari Vijayan is scott free now.The central leadership of the communist party has become the most corrupt party .
