The CPM asked the Election Commission to hold a meeting of all parties and technical experts to clear doubts and allay apprehensions about the use of electronic voting machines.

"In the recent period, a number of questions have been raised about the reliability of the EVMs in polling process. Amongst the concerns are the possibility of tampering with the programme chip embedded in the EVMs and further the lack of any verifiable record of the vote cast by a voter," party General Secretary Prakash Karat said in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla.

He said there were some countries, having the requisite technological know-how, that had stopped the use of EVMs or prescribed conditions for their use.

"It is important that all doubts about the use of the EVMs for voting are removed, so that people's faith in the democratic system is not affected," Karat said.

Ballot papers - only way forwardBy: Impartial Observer | 03-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Ballot papers is the only way to ensure free and fair elections. The more ruling party insists of using EVMs, the more like it would seem that the elections were rigged by Congress I.
EVMBy: SURYA | 02-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward All the Developed countries use ballats rather than EVM. This is simply because the voters can never be sure that the computer programme operating the process into EVM is working properly or not. Use of ballat is must to ensure the confidence of the voters that the valuable citizenship power they are using is going to the right candidates.
Delay In Counting After polls: Why?By: Anil Gupta | 02-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Sir,As suggested by George P.Joseph, is it true that the result may change after a lapse of time after voting through EVMs? Has it got anything to do with the delay in counting of votes? Previously, counting of votes used to take place after just 2-3 days of polling. But of late, for past several elections, counting takes place after a gap of more than a week. Why this is so? Why counting can not take place next day or at the best, the day after. In recently announced poll programme of Haryana,Maharashtra and Arunachal although polling will take place on 13 October, counting will take place after a gap of ten days on 23 October. Why this gap of ten days?
EVMs By: George P. Joseph | 02-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward As Mr. Surya also remarked, developed Countries trust in balloting rather than EVMs. consequent to Computer Programs, software, hard wares comprising sensors, chips etc., can easily ramify the votes into adverse effect or may not be marked even the EVMs responded as marked, etc., due to the expertise used in making the EVMs which may not be detected by other expert while comparing to the advanced technologies launched and in practice in all other devices in the scope of such as Medical, Space, Engineering, Mining, etc. etc., etc.
Electronics Genius!By: George P. Joseph | 02-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward At this point of time of inventions, the most secured and fool-proof internet Bank Accounts, Govt. Secrets of Global Countries have been hacked by the genius in electronics engineering, the Indians are also being appreciated world famous in Electronics, as everybody is well aware, the possibility of tampering with EVMS is a flip of left hand. It is the responsibility of the Political Parties to explore into the possibilities of such partiality may cause in EVMs tampering which may not be noticed at the time of put into operation and may change the results after a certain period of time due to particular devices of electronics.
Hackers can' steal' ballotsBy: Anil Gupta | 02-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Sir, According to an IANS report from Washington dated August 11, computer scientists have demonstrated how criminals could hack an electronic voting machine (EVM) and 'steal' votes using a alicious programming approach that had not been invented when the EVMs were designed. The team from the Universities of California, San Diego,Michigan and Princeton employed "return-oriented programming' to force the EVM to turn against itself.Prof Hovav Shacham of UC-SD's computer science at Jacobs School of Engineering demonstrated how the return-oriented programming can be used to execute vote-stealing computations. They suggested that the best approach would involve fast optical scanners reading paper ballots. These paper ballots are amenable to statistical audits, they said. These findings were presented at the 2009 Electronic Voting Technoligy Workshop. This news item is available on Yahoo-India News.
