Meanwhile, while the CPM politburo criticised the budget, it praised the efficiency during Lalu Prasad’s regime.
“The Railway budget of 2008-09 had reported a cash surplus of around Rs 20,000 crore. This surplus had come down to Rs 13,500 crore in this year’s interim Railway budget (February 2009) and has come down further to Rs 8,700 crore in the current Railway budget,” a politburo statement said.
“The Railway budget presented by the Railway Minister in Parliament reflects a marked deterioration in the financial position of the Railways,” added the statement.
