But two years later, both Achuthanandan and Vijayan were suspended from the Politburo for taking their fight out in the public domain. Their suspension was later revoked.

Achutanandan had come under attack at the CPM Central Committee meeting in mid-June when his ministerial colleagues raised objection to his style of functioning.

Three ministers Thomas Isaac, M A Baby and P K Sreemati, known to be close to Vijayan, launched a no holds barred attack on the veteran leader. Isaac even demanded Achuthanandan's removal from the Chief Minister's post.

Achuthanandan said on Friday that it was for the party and people to decide whether he should continue in the post. While Achutanandan seemingly favours removal of Vijayan as the CBI proceeds to prosecute him in the SNC-Lavalin graft case, he has come under growing attacks from within the party.

Whats there to talk this much? Why hurting a straight forward truthful chief minister ?By: anu | 06-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Now almost everyone in Kerala could guess the culprit in SNC lavlin just from the fear to go to court and also it seems obvious that central committee too seems to have a part in SNC lavlin, otherwise why the hype behind it.

Being sensible is the need of the hour.By: CK Raju, Thrissur | 05-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward The website of communist party of india (marxist) lists out its agenda and goals. What is problematic in such declarations happens to be terminologies like "strategies and tactics" which the organisation is supposed to play with "people". When does one need "strategies and tactics" ? Are they needed when the organisation's philosophy cannot be explained to people in simple terms ? Vijayan is yet to speak why he wanted a cancer treatment hospital at the cost of public exchequer through *strategics and tactics" using non-existent policy framework, when, as part of a party in power, he could easily have made the government allocate funds for such a hospital. Cancers caused by carcinogenic means can well be stopped if carcinogens are banned. For instance, use of Endosulfan in Malabar region is widespread. Why couldn't he have contributed to ban Endosulfan ? Why couldn't he have contributed in convincing people to cultivate diverse food crops that takes care of nutrition and health requirements ? Why does Vijayan want to indulge in a system which first makes people vulnerable to market dynamics by forcing them to go for mono-cropping lifestyle, forces people to be part of an exchange system, makes people vulnerable to diseases and then provides people with a hospital for cure ? This party, is no longer a party for the poor - because in all its interventions, it is making market-centric institutions inevitable for common citizens - creating a de-facto setup, from where equality can never be achieved. Instead of organising people, empowering them with knowledge, assisting them to lead dignified lives without intervention of intermediaries, the party under such vision-blind leaders is creating more and more situation which will neither usher in equality, but guarantee miserable life to future generations. Since this is a situation which goes against the basic tenets of Marxism and the Indianised manifesto of CPI-M, the Polit Bureau should ideally accord more priority to (a) making its goals more transparent and straightforward, (b) force its own followers to forego illusions on market-centric systems, (c) convince the citizens on the reasons behind its ideals and (d) declare means of attaining all such goals, after conducting extensive debates.
Special Polit beauroBy: A R NUJUM | 05-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Infighting between the leaders of cpm(not for idealogy simply for egoism) destroy a lot to the party. somany leaders dedicated their life to party and built it. now the leaders enjoy the benefits from the party and destroy the image and idealogy of the party. gradually cpm becomes like other political parteis. leaders attitude and body language is terrible. party's branch committee to central commitee filled with Dolls who is partisan. so correct it because communism is good to the common people leaders with peoples support should elect as leaders.
CPI (M) need to shift its focusBy: Hary Nambiar | 04-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Why do they all have to go to New Delhi? Why can not they meet in Thiruvanandapuram or Kolkotta, where the majority of Polit Bureau members live? Why do they need to meet so frequently? I agree with Sreekumar that people have come a long way and understand things which affect them. CPM leaders have always supported lawlessness and have never been anything but obstacles in the way of economic progress. They need to look in the direction of economic progress, which the CPM infested states lack very much.
