CPM says ‘biased EC’ favours Trinamool

The CPM leadership today alleged the Election Commission favoured the Trinamool Congress by not taking any steps against it for violating the code of conduct and acted in a partial manner against the CPM.

The CPM leadership today alleged the Election Commission(EC) favoured the Trinamool Congress by not taking any steps against it for violating the code of conduct and acted in a partial manner against the CPM.

Handing over the complaint to CEO against the Trinamool roadshows in the city last week,Rabin Deb,senior CPM leader, said the party would highlight the biased role of the EC before the general public and may even approach the court against the commission.

Deb said Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee organised two roadshows, one on March 27 at Behala and another on March 29 in North Calcutta, obstructing the traffic, which was a clear violation of the EC code. Banners, posters and cutouts of the Trinamool were displayed on the lamp posts and several other government properties during the roadshow. And yet the EC did not take any steps,he said.

On the other hand,Deb alleged,on March 31,at a CM’s programme in Dinabandhu Andrews College at Garia organised by SFI,the student wing of the CPM,the federation was asked to remove its banner and poster though it is not a political party. These incidents indicate the EC is favouring the Trinamool,he said.

N K Sahana, special officer of the CEO,West Bengal said,“According to the EC code, rally obstructing the traffic movement could not be organised. Today the CEO office received the complaint and the EC would take final decision in the matter.” It is the liberty of the CPM to approach the court against the EC,he said.

The EC today issued a notification for the 3rd phase of poll to be held on April 27 in 75 assembly segments. The last date of filing nominations in the 3rd phase is April 9.
