While Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today claimed that her party was not seeking political vendetta despite a landslide victory, the Opposition cried foul and alleged that an ever-growing list of their cadres had been killed in post-poll violence.
At the Brigade Parade Grounds today, two months after the formation of the government led by Trinamool Congress,Mamata evoked memories of martyrs from Nanoor to Junglemahal,Singur and Nandigram, and said the victory of her party was because of the sacrifice of her supporters.
The Left, however, had a different story. After the elections,as many as 27 of our supporters have been killed in the state. We sent a list to the chief minister in this regard only yesterday, Opposition leader and CPM veteran Surya Kanta Misra said.
The letter included a list of the 27 dead along with those injured and made homeless allegedly in post-poll violence. The deaths of our supporters cannot be denied. Even postmortems have been done. What the CM is saying is untrue, said Misra.
I had promised there would be be no bloodshed in Bengal and so there has been no bloodshed. The Opposition is saying there is violence, they will have to prove it… From those who have perpetuated violence for 34 years,I do not want any suggestion, Mamata said at the rally.
