When it comes to elections, everything is fair. This assembly election, the champion of proletariats’ cause and the voice of labour class, the Communist Party of India (CPI-M) will be seen wooing the middle class. Eying the tech-savvy youth and middle class, the CPM on Thursday will get its website inaugurated by labour class women. The portal will have all virtual interaction tools — like chatting and social networking.
The last time CPI-M fought the elections in Pune was in 1962. This year, the party, which is a part of Republican-Left Democratic Front (RLDF), will field its candidate, Kiran Moghe, from Parvati assembly segment. Moghe has been working for the cause of housemaids since the past 15 years. However, considering the structure of Parvati constituency, the party cannot neglect the middle class votes.
Knowing that all other parties will depend on technology, the CPI-M doesn’t want to lag behind. “We are not going to shy away from using technology. We know it is a need of the hour,” said Ajit Abhyankar, district general secretary of CPI-M.
Abhyankar said the party can reach out to many people through the medium of Internet. “We will have our manifesto posted on the website. Our candidate will interact with the voters through the website. We may have a blog too to register feedback,” he said.
According to a party office bearer, Moghe’s background — she is a graduate from London School of Economics — will attract middle class votes. “The USP of our candidate is she can communicate with housemaids as well as high profile people with same ease,” he said.
