CPM-style austerity: Rectification document', conduct code, fund clarity

  • The CPM has identified a growing tendency among some of its comrades to kowtow to the capitalist class, an euphemism for the rich, and increasing instances of favouritism shown by its elected representatives as “deviations” which need to be addressed fast.

The rectification document, the draft of which was finalised by the Politburo on Sunday, seeks to set right such wrong tendencies besides bringing some clarity on collection of funds by the party. A “code of conduct” for its elected representatives is also in the offing to check nepotism and corruption and to remind them of the need to adopt a simple lifestyle, according to sources.

In other words, it could be the CPM’s own austerity drive. Sources said the party would be harsh on those who accepted hospitality extended by corporate and private lobbies, including dinner and lunch invites and expensive gifts.

“All wrong trends in the party will be rectified and it will be done at all levels,” said CPM Politburo member M K Pandhe. His colleague Sitaram Yechury, however, touched upon the need for party leaders to follow a simple lifestyle but did not forget to take a dig at the Congress on the government’s austerity drive.

“We have seen the austerity of Congress style in which an MP buys an economy class, sits in an economy class till the flight takes off and then moves to business class. This is not the style of austerity which we are talking about,” he added.

The latest incident of CPM Central Committee member and Kerala’s Health Minister P K Sreemathi appointing her daughter-in-law in her personal staff as a cook and then promoting her as an additional personal assistant within a year is now being cited as an example of favouritism. The issue would now be looked into by the state committee, sources said.

The Comrades Rectifying Their MistakesBy: N.V.SANKARAN | 13-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward When communism itself is a negation of basic human nature, how can there be any corrective measures. Their ideology is the offspring of jealousy. They cannot digest other people prospering. So, they profess, " grab everything from the haves(the rich) and make them also "have-nots(poor)" and create an equality of have-nots. This is needed for their survival because if there is no poverty, communism loses its relevance. Whether one is a bourgeois capitalist or a proletariat, one's primary aim is to improve one's own financial welfare. In this effort, the capitalist at least generate wealth and employment, whereas the communist or socialist only wants equitable distribution of wealth and not bothered about who creates it.
The Comrades Rectifying Their Mistakes; Something To Be AppreciatedBy: keveeyes | 12-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward I have seen the decision of the CPI(M) polit beareau about the corrective measures to be taken in the organisation. I have also seen a lot of criticism about the same in the media, especially the electronic media. Here one has to admit one thing; it is true that the CPM must have made mistakes; but one has to appreciate them for the bold steps taken by they themselves to correct. They sat together, went into to the problems they are facing and has decided to come out with some internal measures to over come those issues. They have that capacity; they can do it. What about those people who are talking loudly against the corrupt practices of the CPM leaders? There are a number of politicians and public workers and representatives of the people in front of us. Most of them have made money and wealth....no one can imagine about those things. Iam not saying anything about any party;but even those parties who once stood to purity in public life do protect and shield such people.
There is nothing wrong with commercial communismBy: Who Jinn Tao Comrade of Poolitburo | 12-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward There is nothing wrong with commercial communism, as great communist superpower of peoples mighty big brother of all communists Chin has shown. Instead of such documents, to achiever true communism, Pee. Karate and Poolitburo must draft a document that Kolkata should become a province of Chin just like their "educated" comrades of Tibet, Urumuqi, etc. and they must also ask the same for the Nepali statesman Prochand to do.
