A crane overturned at a Delhi Metro construction site this afternoon.

No one was injured in the incident that took place at the under-construction Saket station in south Delhi at around 12:15 pm.

"A small crane overturned within the construction premises. No one was injured in the incident," Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.

A Metro official said some mechanical problem led to the toppling of the crane.

Crane Mishap at DelhiBy: Praful Daptardar | 04-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward This is the 6th crane accident of major scale on the rail project within one year. Shame to the authorities. Contractors are squeezed for money while tendering and hence forced to take short cuts. This results in these types of accidents. Safety norms. third party inspection of crane and lifting gear are hardly done regularly. Government inspection is highly corrupt hence no one bothers to inspect at site. The Safety officer of the government must be sacked immediately. The contractor should be jailed immediately to deter these rogue elements. But with highly corrupt administration this is not possible.Innocent lives will be lost in our miserably failed democracy.
Construction ProjectsBy: Giri Girishankar | 03-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Based on repeated failures of mechanical equipment and structural collapses, it would seem that qualification process of contractors and their construction and safety procedures is inadequate and/or not thorough. The latest accident should drive the authorities to immediately review this process and take necessary steps to upgrade them. At the same time, there should be a review of the conduct of the authorities that approve the contracting process to make sure that they did or did not evaluate all of the criteria. If India has any ambitions of becoming a competitive international constructor, it has to immediately erase the ill-reputation that it has already acquired by these mishaps and make sure it is done in an open manner.
Pure Negligence and Nothing!By: Piyush Jain | 03-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward These problems have started ever since after DMRC decided to go for indegenious contractors unlike in the beginning when specialised metro rail contractors from all over the world were invited. Our local (desi) contractors are often bidding at below par rates just to get the contract so that their TRP in the market goes up.Still time to react Mr. Metroman and DMRC!!!
INFRASTRUCTURE BUILDERSBy: NIRANJAN | 03-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward IT IS A SHAME THAT EVERY OTHER DAY THERE IS SOME MISHAP AT THE SITE OF AN INFRASTRUCTURE CONSTRUCTION. IT APPEARS THAT THE CORRUTPION HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL AND GOOD BUILDERS CANNOT COMPETE BECAUSE OF THE FAVORTISM BY THE BABUs AND GOVT OFFICIALS. THEY SHOULD WATCH SOME OF THE PROGRAMS ON NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC AND DISCOVERY CHANNELS TO SEE HOW COMPLEX DESIGN OF BRIDGES ETC ARE MADE AND HOW CONSTRUCTION TAKES PLACE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE BUILDER WITH THE MOST INFLUENCE IN THE MINISTRY GETS THE CONTRACT WHETHER QUALIFIED OR NOT. I AM CERTAIN THAT WE WILL LOSE FACE DURING THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES!
Did the driver had license to use the craneBy: freddie (Indian) | 03-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Do not the mechanical problem and do not except Indians to be a fool to think that it was due to mechanical problem. First of i would like to asked the concern authority that whether the driver had license to use the crane. I hope authorities know that you need license to use the crane. Are you using secondhand or outdated crane like the bofors guns which are used by our Indian soldiers at the border.
