‘Creative writing should be part of the curriculum’

A creative writing workshop for students of classes V to IX was held at Dikshant International School,Zirakpur,on Saturday.

A creative writing workshop for students of classes V to IX was held at Dikshant International School,Zirakpur,on Saturday. Meenakshi Reddy Madhavan,a young writer and author of the bestseller,You are Here,interacted as well as answered the queries of children about herexperiences while writing her maiden book.

During the interaction,she taught them the means to exploit and access their latent creativity,apart from apprising them about the skills of editing,structural techniques and idea generation.

Meenakshi also conducted some short exercises and asked children to carry a notebook everywhere to pen down their observations and thoughts.

While giving tips to students,she remarked that creative writing is a means to express one’s thoughts and feelings in an imaginative and often unique and poetic way. Addressing students,Meenakshi said,“Creative writing should be an important part of the school curriculum as it hones students’ ability to clearly express their thoughts.”

Speaking on the occasion,Mitul Dikshit,director of the school,said: “In the educational scheme,there must be encouragement for the dreamsand imaginations of the young. A student must be permitted expression of emotions.”
