India is on a disastrous tour of Australia, losing the Test series 0-3. But BCCI chief N Srinivasan tells The Indian Express Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta on NDTV's Walk the Talk that he is confident the team will bounce back
My guest this week is somebody who has the toughest job in the country and sits on the hottest seat. Mr Srinivasan, heading the BCCI is a tough job in the best of times and these are not the best of times.
Yes, but at all times it is a very challenging job. As you know, the country is so passionate about cricket that when we do well they are happy and when the results are not that good, there is gloom and everybody starts criticising the team.
Well, the results are not that good is a euphemism. What happened with the cricket team is equivalent to the Indian Army losing Kashmir.
We had a bad series in England and when they came back, I said I had all faith in the Indian team, and they proved it in the domestic series. We did hope, we definitely felt that they would do well in Australia. If you take the first Test, there were moments when I think we were on top and for some reason or the other, the Australians got away. One can't really run them down. The team tried hard and I think the Australians also are very good. They have some very good set of fast bowlers.
And much faster wickets than we've had in the last couple of series in Australia. Much more greener, I mean Sydney had so much grass this time.
I believe so but at that level, we expect international cricketers to adjust, so I don't think that one should really blame the wickets. I think Australia played very well and I think we had some bad moments.
