Tendulkar XI had earlier declared their innings at 282 for 7 and their rivals after the early flourish just folded up adding only 42 runs thereafter. The second match of the tournament remained inconclusive as Gavaskar XI chasing Vengsarkar XI's total of 278/3 managed to escape by the skin of their teeth, finishing the day at 258/9.
The players who really excelled on the day were all-rounders Tanush Kotian and Yash Joshi for Tendulkar XI. The former after contributing 36 with the bat decimated the opposition grabbing 4/24 with his off spin while the latter who had top-scored with 74 proved equally devastating with his leg spin, finishing with a bag of 4/26. Vaishnav Narvekar of Vengsarkar XI was the only centurion in the first round. He scored an unbeaten 101 whereas his partner Sarvesh Surve missed his ton by a mere six runs after which their captain applied the closure which may have cost them a well-deserved win in the end.

Shinde shines bright in Mangrol win
LED by a strokeful 168 by Aakash Shinde, Mangrol SC recorded the only outright win in the first round of the Santosh Kumar Ghosh U/16 cricket tournament organized by Sporting Union club and Kalyandas Memorial Sports Foundation. Playing at the Azad Maidan, Mangrol scored 289 and then bundled out Aarey CC for 100 in the second innings to register a victory by an innings and 97 runs. Mayuresh Mule with impressive figures of 6/47 was the chief destroyer for Mangrol while Neel Chitalia and Dharmik Gandhi scored valiant half-centuries.
In another match, Prabhu Jolly came close to registering a victory but were thwarted by the last wicket pair of Sporting Union who held on for dear life in the last three overs. Prabhu Jolly, who enjoyed a 42-run lead, were polished off for a paltry 67 in their second innings as Matin Ansari and Suraj Verma claimed five and four wickets respectively for Sporting Union. Captain Shantanu Dalvi returned figures of 3/32 with his off-spin but failed to tighten the noose on the opposition or enable Prabhu Jolly to register an exciting win.
Elsewhere, Bhavin Darjee, Mahim Juveniles's left-arm spinner and off-spinner Umang Sheth from Gay Cavaliers gave standout performances, claiming seven wickets each to help their teams register first innings win. Umang Sheth went a notch further by displaying his batting prowess scoring 32 and 65 not out in the same match.
