  • Sachin Tendulkar is perhaps more familiar with tennis elbow than tennis, but today, in the city for a promotional event of the Sunfeast WTA meet, he steered clear of all “cricketing issues.”

And with the moderator at the press conference trying his level best to fend off queries regarding “the taboo subject” of the day, Tendulkar did not open his mouth on the issue of the India captaincy. “Will he send his best wishes to the one who does become India captain?”—even an innocuous query like that had the moderator step in with inane defensive tactics while Tendulkar looked on incredulously.

With the Sunfeast Kolkata Open being in limelight, Tendulkar took part in launching a product of the title sponsors and then making an impression—literally. His palm imprints were taken to be displayed later at the Avenue of Stars at the Millennium Park.

About the ongoing Twenty20 World cup, he said that he was enjoying it.

“Its fantastic watching it. The team is doing well though in the last game we did not get the result we wanted. But the tournament is still wide open.”

Asked what role the senior players played in England in the absence of a coach, he said: “Whether there is a coach or not, I always go up to the players and tell them if I have anything to say. “Similarly, I tell even the youngest player in the team to come and tell me if I am going wrong somewhere. It builds up a good team.”

    ... contd.
