  • Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi’s Parivartan rally at the Morahabadi Maidan here on Wednesday boasted of a number of United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) leaders and former chief ministers.

Asom Gana Parishad’s Brindaban Goswami, former Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, SP leader Amar Singh, former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala and former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu were all present at the rally.

Sadly for Marandi, not many in the crowd were interested in hearing what these leaders had to say. By the time UNPA chairperson Yadav rose to address the gathering, 50 per cent of the people had already left the venue.

Marandi, who had quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to float Jharkhand Vikas Morcha in 2006, said, “A new beginning has been made. Our aim is not to grab power. We want to change the system. This is possible only when people get their freedom from those who rule the state from Delhi. If the people of this state want to live with dignity, they will have to wage a war against the Congress-led UPA and the BJP-led NDA.”
