The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has suspended a jawan for allegedly molesting an employee of a private airline at Srinagar airport and has also constituted an inquiry committee to look into the matter.
“We have suspended CRPF personnel Suadkahra Rao after the preliminary investigation. We have ordered an inquiry,” said CRPF spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi. Rao was posted at the airport.
Even as the CRPF admits that the jawan was suspended, the police in Srinagar are tight-lipped. The incident took place on Sunday evening when the employee of private airline — JetLite—retired to her room after finishing her day’s job. As the woman entered into her room, the CRPF personnel too forced his way in and tried to garb hold of her. She, however, raised alarm and people rushed into her room and grabbed the CRPF trooper.
Sources said the airport authorities informed their headquarters in Delhi about the incident who in turn raised the matter with CRPF. Sources said that it was on the directions of the CRPF top officials in Delhi, that the constable was suspended immediately.
The spokesman of the CRPF, however, said that the constable has informed his officer that he barged into the room unintentionally. He had even apologised to the lady after he entered the room.
Meanwhile, four Air Force personnel, charged of eve-teasing and attacking police officials in Iqbal Park on Saturday were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar. The four were arrested on Saturday on charges of eve teasing. A case was registered at the Sheergari police station.
