  • Accepting the recommendations of its undergraduate council, the syndicate of the Calcutta University today gave its nod to a few modifications in the undergraduate and post-graduate academic structure of the university.

The passing marks in pass papers have been increased to 30 from 25, according to the recommendation of the undergraduate council.

According to the new rules, an undergraduate student failing in either theory or practical will have to appear only in that concerned paper. Earlier, if a student failed in theory or in practical they would have to appear in both the examination.

The university also decided to bring environmental studies from first year to third year and the examination will be of 100 marks instead of 50 marks.

In the meeting the university decided to come up with a single system of semester-based exams for all the science and technology faculties at the post-graduate level of the university.

The university will come up with a regulation on these new changes unlike the earlier internal orders of the university called CSR. These regulations will be applicable from the ensuing examination of the university in the year 2010.
