  • With increase in the cases of violence during examinations in the colleges, authorities of the Calcutta University are considering the option of taking action against students who have been identified of attacking teachers and disrupting the examination process.

They are also planning to come out with a detail report on incidents when teachers were directly assaulted during the BA / BSC examination, held a few months ago.

“This year, the numbers of incidents where students have attacked the teachers and created ruckus during examinations have increased. We have received reports of eight such cases where students heckled teachers, tried to intimidate them, tore answer-sheets and disrupted the examination process during BA/BSC examinations this year,” said an official of the CU.

A teacher at Rastraguru Surendranath College in Barrackpore was manhandled by students during the examination break after he had tried to stop the students from using unfair means.

In another case, a teacher of Pransanta Chandra Mahalanobis College was attacked at a railway station by a student as the former had not allowed him to copy from other students during the examination.

In Howrah, after an examinee was detained by the college authorities for using unfair means, his friends attacked the college in an attempt to set the student free.

“In most cases when a number of students are involved it becomes difficult to take action against the student as it becomes difficult to identify the real culprit,” said an official of the examination section. “It is also to be noted that a number of cases of using unfair means are not reported to the university,” the official added.
