Cyclist hit by car, dies

In an accident with a car, a cyclist died on the spot while he was on the way home from work near Sector 39. The cyclist has been identified as Prem Nath, aged 51, a resident of Sector 24 who worked as a painter.

The accident took place when Prem Nath was returning home from work, Mukesh Kumar a resident of Sector 40 hit Prem Nath. In a head on collision, Prem Nath was severely injured and was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16 where he was declared dead by the doctors on arrival.

Mukesh Kumar, a 50-year-old was arrested by the police and was booked on charges of causing death due to negligence. Prem Nath's cycle was completely damaged due to the accident.

On January 1 as well an accident had taken place where an SUV had hit a cyclist at Matka Chownk. The cyclist had died on the spot.

NSS to hold 1-week camp at PU

Chandigarh: The campus unit of NSS, Panjab University (PU) has organized a one-week camp from January 2 to 8 on the theme 'Youth for sustainable development', the inaugural function of which was held in the Zoology auditorium on Wednesday. In his inaugural address, the V-C Prof Arun Kumar Grover stressed upon the importance of youth empowerment.
