CBI filed its chargesheet against Major general Anand Kumar Kapoor and his wife Mridula Kapoor in the court of Special Judge, Patiala House Courts for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of around Rs 3.37 crore.

The CBI had registered a case on October 8, 2007 on the basis of source information against Kapoor, posted at South Western Command, Jaipur and his wife under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Searches were also conducted at 12 places at Delhi, Gurgaon, Shimla, Jaipur and Mumbai.

The investigation revealed that the Major General, while serving in different capacities, during the period November 1971 to October 2007 acquired assets, disproportionate to his known sources of income. “He has acquired assets either in his own name or in the name of Hindu Undivided Family (HUF), showing himself as ‘Karta’, or in the name of his wife,” said a CBI official.
