Dahod was selected as it is one of the most backward areas in the state
Over 50 schoolchildren from Dahod had the experience of a lifetime gliding through the sky on Wednesday.
The students got this opportunity at a microlight flying camp organised by the National Adventure Foundation (NAF).
This is for the first time that NAF has organised an adventure sports eventinGujarat. The 10-day camp at Rampura village in Dahod will end on Thursday.
The camp has been sponsored by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Zuben Contractor, director of the Gujarat Chapter of NAF, said: “Gujaratis generally do not prefer adventure sports and we had a tough time convincing students for the camp. At the end, it was a success with 50 students from different schools participating in the event.”
He said they selected Dahod because “it is one of the backward areas and students from the tribal belt can experience the thrill”.
Dr Ramesh Pujari, who actively participates in aero sports, said: “NAF is a non-government organisation formed by defence personnel to take initiatives in adventure activities. This particular camp was primarily for students from Dahod.”
He added: “This is a unique opportunity for the students to experience the joy of flying in an open cockpit microlight aircraft.”
Students aged 14 years and above participated in the event.
