Daman panchayat bypoll: BJP nominee accused in several cases,say cops

said Sukha has been caught many times for bootlegging in the past.

“At present,charges like bootlegging and attempt to murder are framed against him and his arrest is pending,as investigations are on. It is the duty of the election commissioner to disqualify him. Our duty is to maintain law and order,”

he said.

“Every politician in Daman,including ex-MPs,MPs and panchayat presidents,have cases registered against them. There is nothing new in it,” Meena added. According to sources,Sukha is accused of bootlegging in Valsad.

On the selection of Sukha,Daman BJP president B M Machhi said,“We wanted to field a strong candidate and everybody suggested the name of Sukha Patel,so we gave him the ticket.”

The bypoll for Saudwadi in Diu and Patlara in Daman district panchayat will be held on September 23. Sukha will contest the Patlara seat on a BJP ticket.

The bypoll was necessitated as Lalu Patel of the BJP,

who had been representing

the seat,was elected to the

Lok Sabha from Daman early this year.
