Hrithik Roshan sets out in search for India’s best dancer with Star Plus’ new reality show,Just Dance

Even before the release of his debut film,Kaho Na Pyaar Hai,Hrithik Roshan had managed to get in the spotlight. His lithe and graceful moves to the film’s foot-tapping number Ek Pal Ka Jeena had already won him a following, considerably upping the benchmark for Bollywood dancing.

It isn’t surprising then, that the popular actor has chosen his dancing expertise to make his small screen debut. The new dance reality show,Just Dance on Star Plus, will see him in the role of a dance mentor for the first time on national television.

Though excited about his new role, the 36-year-old feels uncomfortable when his fans call him the best among dancers. “I am blessed that I have become a symbol for dance. But I’m not the best dancer in the country, city or even my neighborhood. I just work hard at my dancing and I am a passionate performer,” he smiles.

What probably inspired Roshan to develop a unique style are his dancing idols — Michael Jackson and Shammi Kapoor — whom he considers as “legends in the history of dance, who inspire me as a performer”. Talking about his technique, however,he says that it’s practice which makes him perfect. “I start rehearsing from scratch,a place where I feel I can’t do this, and go on till I know I can’t do any better,” he says.

Roshan, who is currently shooting for the remake of Agneepath in Diu,has been shuttling between Mumbai and Diu in order to be a part of the dance show. But the extensive travelling doesn’t bother him one bit. “For me,dance is not just an art; it is passion, love and a way of life. Besides, this show will give me a chance to witness exceptional dancers from across the globe and that’s extremely exciting,” he says.

On the show, the actor takes on the role of a judge and a mentor to the participants. “I will be on the lookout for the next dancing superstar from among the participants,” says Roshan.

He,however, has given the format his personal touch by putting together a special team of choreographers and dance experts to ensure that the best training is imparted to the contestants. “Just Dance is not just a reality show. It’s a dance extravaganza for anyone who has the passion and the determination to dance on an international stage,” says Roshan. The winner of the show will be sharing the stage with Roshan in the finale. And to reach that stage,Roshan suggests “the contestants must dance with emotion and not perform merely to win.”
