Dance little lady

“Main hoon,tu darr. Take your time,” she jokes with the organisers,who are running a tad late on schedule. Nevertheless the constant smile on her face convinces us that she is enjoying her debut stint.

“I’m thoroughly enjoying myself,since it requires me to be spontaneous. For me,it is the dance and its various forms that clearly set the show apart. I have always been very fond of dancing and I couldn’t have chosen a better show to be a part of,” she states proudly,making a mention of all the difficult dances she did in Dil Bole Hadippa and reminiscing about her teenage years when she loved performing on stage. “We did not have a platform then to be on television,otherwise I would have definitely participated. At least my mom would have made sure I did,” she laughs.

Prior to the show,Mukerji was constantly blamed of being reclusive and making rare public appearances. “This show has made me more accessible,” she agrees,as she sips on tea. “I get to connect with the masses and interact with people from various backgrounds,which I wouldn’t be able to otherwise. Also,not many people in India go to the theatres to watch a movie. But every household in India is hooked to television. Television helps me gain visibility,when I am not doing too many films,” she smiles.

Mukerji may be a superstar but her humility has us rooting for her. In between breaks,we see her mingling with the crowd,making small talk with the technicians,joking around with the crew and breaking into an occasional song which helps cut down the boredom on the sets. The stress of long hours that television is notorious for doesn’t seem to bother her. “It is the people on the show that keep me going. The enthusiasm of the contestants and the emotions of the coaches are overwhelming,” she states as her hairstylist does a good job of keeping her long mane in place.

The actress further tells us that DPL was a progression from her last venture Dil Bole Hadippa. “Hadippa helped me understand cricket terminology really well. If not for the film,I would not have done this show which is loosely based on the IPL,” she says. After DPL,she wishes to be back on her home ground—the big screen. “I have been reading too many scripts these days but have not signed any film as yet,” she says,keeping us waiting.
