Top IPS officer A K Jain,who is evading arrest in connection with his alleged involvement in the 2006 Dara Singh encounter case,today sought anticipatory bail. Jain,through his counsel,moved the petition before District Judge K S Bhatnagar who posted the matter for hearing on May 30. A 1978 batch IPS officer of the Rajasthan cadre and at present Additional Director General (Home Guards),Jain is wanted by the CBI in the case. Another police officer Arshad Ali (of the rank of an Additional SP) is also wanted by the CBI in the case. A CBI court here has already issued warrants against both after they did not appear before the investigative agency at its Jaipur office on May 15. Five police officers,including A Ponnuchamy of the IGP rank,have already been arrested in connection with the alleged fake encounter which took place in October 2006 in the state capital. On a petition filed by Daras widow Sushila,the Supreme Court had ordered a CBI probe into the case. She had alleged her husband was picked from his house by the police and killed by the Special Operation Group (SOG).
