Daughter of beedi worker, she dreamt of bank, MNC job

Daughter of a beedi worker, V Rajitha's dream of doing MBA and getting a job to supplement her family's income was shattered by the blasts. Recuperating at Yashoda Hospital, she is yet to come to terms with reality — doctors had to amputate her left leg, from below the knee to save her life. She is in shock, said family members.

Hailing from Kamareddy in Nizamabad, Rajitha's father V Anjaiah rolls beedis in a factory for a living. Her brother V Raju is a first year MBA student. Both are students of Islamia College in Chandrayangutta, and Rajitha, a final year student, was preparing her last project work and for final exams in April.

"She was also preparing for bank entrance exams. She was to appear for one exam this week. She used to talk of working in a bank or an MNC. More than me she was very keen to complete MBA and get a job as quickly as possible to help the family,'' Raju said.

The siblings live in campus hostels of the Islamia College and would go home to spend weekends with parents. "As she wanted to purchase books and material for her project work, after college she took the school route bus and got down at Dilsukhnagar. Her hostel warden K Sapna accompanied her as she also wanted to make some purchases. Sapna died. I came to know when I received a call from the hospital," Raju said.

V Anjaiah, her father, said Rajitha refuses to talk. "I am worried if she will ever come out of shock. My wife, who was pestering her for marriage, is worried no one will marry her now," he said. "Some students died in the blasts and many are injured. These students worked so hard to come up in life but the blasts changed their lives forever."
