More than two weeks after news broke that Dawood Ibrahims brother Noor-ul-Haq alias Noora had died of natural causes on March 31,Indian security agencies have now found out that he was,in fact, kidnapped and brutally killed under extremely mysterious circumstances.
Its learnt that according to latest information available with New Delhi,51-year-old Noora was abducted two days before his death and a ransom demand of $50 million was made. While it is still not known what transpired during the ransom talks, sources said,it was eventually confirmed that Nooras body was dropped off near Dawood Ibrahims house in Karachi. As many as seven bullets are believed to have been fired into his head and his body bore signs of extreme torture.
While the family let it be known that he had died from a massive cardiac arrest and some other accounts suggested cancer complicated by kidney failure, intelligence sources here are convinced by their latest inputs that Noora was murdered. This information, they added, has been duly verified. What is still in realm of uncertainty is the identity of the real perpetrators.
It is believed that the well-known underworld gang of Sardar Rehman Dakait that operates out of Lyari Town area of Karachi was possibly behind the abduction, but the suspicion is that the gang could possibly have been commissioned to send a message to Dawood Ibrahim.
In the past few years, there have been reports that many in Dawoods family have been restless to return to India and were making efforts to get in touch with old contacts in India. Noora, who once wanted to be a lyricist, had recently held a meeting in Dubai with legal experts to explore ways of returning to India, facing up to charges and possibly working around the legal system to at least get re-established in Mumbai. Indian agencies have been picking up inputs that the ISI has not taken to these efforts by Dawoods kin members kindly. Another brother of the don,Iqbal Sheikh Kaskar, was deported by Dubai to India in 2003.
Sources said the incident is bound to have rattled Dawood Ibrahim. Noora was not just his younger brother, but a close aide in running some of the businesses in Dubai besides playing a key hand in the narcotics trade that Dawood still runs with the help of one Ibrahim Khan. Noora has eight cases of extortion and kidnapping against him besides being named in the murder of a Customs officer Rajinder Singh. While staying in Karachi,he had nurtured some businesses in Dubai, namely Anees Trading near Nasser Square in Dubai and Choice Textile Trading in Meena Bazaar,Dubai. He is said have also owned two electronic shops in Meena Bazaar.
