The very moment the promos of Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala went viral, it had everybody stumped when they saw and heard Sonu Sood 'introducing' himself as Dawood Ibrahim. In the past, even though Bollywood had many characters modeled on 'D', none were named after him directly.
This however didn't go down well with the people associated with the incidences shown in the film. That's why, to refrain from any complications, Ekta and Sanjay have now gone in for a change of names. They have now renamed Sonu's character as Dilawer and Anil Kapoor's (who plays Isaac Bhagwan) as Afaque. Since the makers had the permission to use Manya Surve's name, that name remains unchanged.
But since nothing could have been done to the promos that had hit the internet, Balaji Motion Pictures played a sensible move by issuing a disclaimer before the promo, which states, "...In certain cases, incidents, character's timings have been changed or fictionalised for dramatic purposes. Certain characters may be composites or entirely fictitious. Some names and locations have been changed. The scenes depicted may be a hybrid of fact and fiction..."
On his part, even though Sanjay confirmed the name changes, he said that they will be redubbing for several portions, but won't be reshooting any portions. He admitted that the reason for the name change was that he had received many phone calls and was pressured into taking that decision.
