Day 2: Scooter rally promotes use of helmets among women

The second day of the 24th National Road Safety Week was marked by a scooter rally. The rally started from Sector 17 and passed through several sectors. Students from various colleges participated in the rally. The main aim of the rally was to promote the use of helmets among women drivers.
Kamal Deep, DSP, Traffic, along with other police personnel were present at the venue. "When it comes to road accidents, men and women are equally vulnerable so I advise all women to wear helmets and also spread the message to their friends and family," said Kamal Deep, DSP, Traffic.
Suresh Sharma, Traffic Marshal, said, "I lost my father in a road accident which has made me more cautious but it is not necessary that one has to go through such harsh times in order to learn. Prevention is always better than cure and so I strongly believe and support the cause".
Helmets were distributed among women driving without helmets. Video CDs were distributed to spread awareness about the road safety measures and traffic rules. The CDs comprise of various documentaries regarding traffic rules, data of road accidents and people who died in accidents along with the CCTV footage of the fatal accidents that have happened in the city.
Road safety workshops were organized in various colleges as well as at the State Bank of India local head office at Sector 17. Traffic personnel and traffic marshals delivered a lecture on road safety and distributed the road safety literature amongst the participants. Films on road safety were also shown to make them aware about traffic rules and regulations.
A workshop for auto drivers and rickshaw pullers was also organized near PGI main gate. During this workshop, eye testing was conducted with the help of the Eye Hospital Trust, Sohana. More than 165 persons attended this camp. Reflectors were also pasted on the non-motorized vehicles. Quizzes and games were also held.
