Day 9: Physically challenged to farmers,more rally behind Anna

As rallies,processions and protests continued for the ninth consecutive day,physically challenged people came out in support of Anna Hazare’s campaign in the state capital on Wednesday.

Under the banner of Uttar Pradesh Viklang Manch,over 200 physically challenged persons took out a foot march from Khadra to Shaheed Smarak. “We are supporting Anna Hazare because we are also suffering from corruption. The central as well state governments have formed various rules and laws for supporting the disabled financially,but these rules are not being implemented properly and we are not getting the benefits because of corruption in the system,” said Suraj Kumar,president of Uttar Pradesh Viklang Manch.

Farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) also took out a march and staged a demonstration with IAC activists at Jhulelal Park. BKU state spokesperson Avdhesh Verma said farmers will stage demonstrations at police stations and tehsil offices in the city on Sunday. Unions of autorickshaw drivers took out another march from Charbagh to Jhulelal Park. Later in the evening,a roza-iftar was organised at the park.

Indian Railways Promotee Officers Federation and Northern Railway Men’s Union of Lucknow Division took out a candlelight march at the Charbagh railway station in Lucknow.

IAC’s Lucknow unit has called upon various organisations to unite and take out a massive rally from GPO to Jhulelal Park on August 27.

In Kanpur,IAC activists organised public meetings in villages to mobilise support of the rural people. They also explained the Jan Lokpal Bill before the villagers. The dharna by IAC activists at the residence of Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal in the city continued for the third day.

In Allahabad,Anna Hazare supporters ended their protest at the residence of UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi because she was not in town. “But we will stage a dharna again when she comes back,” said Ashok Upadhyay,IAC coordinator in Allahabad.

Anna Hazare’s supporters are organising an all-religion prayer meet on Thursday at Subhash Chowk to offer prayers for his well-being and success of his anti-corruption movement.
