Day after,MSU abuzz with discussions, media query

The P-45 classroom (P stands for Physics) of Physics Department at Maharaja Sayajirao University was abuzz with discussions on Thursday.

The P-45 classroom (P stands for Physics) of Physics Department at Maharaja Sayajirao University was abuzz with discussions on Thursday. And the point of discussion was none other than ‘Venki’ – the Noble laureate who studied in the same class.

With the alleys of science faculty buzzing with media persons on the campus, the students looked elated while coming out of their lecture rooms. So much so that a special meeting has been organised by the Physics department on Friday of all the professors who were associated with Venkatraman Ramakrishnan.

“Entering into the P-45 classroom was just a routine affair for us. But suddenly we felt nostalgic when we entered the same room today. On hearing the news of Venkatraman being chosen for the Nobel prize,we were all excited. Before our lecture on Nuclear Physics,we all were discussing about how the situation must be that time,” said final-year student Hemang Jani.

He added they were discussing how Physics is considered a ‘gloomy’ subject and what can change the situation.

“Venki’s achievement has lifted the morale of all of us.”

Sarthak Dasadia,a gold medallist in the same department and pursuing his Masters, said: “Today, the education system has gone high-tech with all possible source of information. But in those days,it must have been a Herculean task. His achievement has actually made all of us proud that we have someone from the same department who possesses the Noble prize.”

In another classroom, the students wrote on the black board,‘Venki! Congrats for the Noble Prize’.

“The students were upbeat right from the morning. The only subject of discussion was Venki’s achievement. Right from emails to remembering old days and continuous presence of media persons,it was the day for all of us to feel proud. This has also reminded us that we will have to create an environment where we can have more Venkis to take MSU on the global map,” said Physics Department Head,A C Sharma.
