A day after the residents of Madhopuri protested against the Municipal Corporation (MC) for the alleged supply of contaminated water, the official machinery swung into action on Friday. Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Ashwini Sahota and Executive Engineer A K Gupta, along with other workers, inspected the area to fix the problem.
Having failed to detect the fault till evening, the MC officials decided to carry out repairs tomorrow.
The tempers, meanwhile, are still flaring among the area residents. “The supply of water in the morning is contaminated water. What is the source of this problem?” asked Naresh Kaura, a resident.
Volleying the blame off his shoulders, area councillor Shyam Sunder Malhotra said the residents never went to him, but, chose to approach the mayor.
“The pipelines in the area are over 50 years old and they need to be replaced. Besides Madhopuri, Tilak Nagar and Gurcharan Gali are also receiving contaminated water supply. Even as a project of more than Rs 5 lakh has been passed for these areas and tenders floated for the same, no contractor has come forward because of the poor payment structure of the MC.”
