Day after soldier dies in Srinagar attack,wife sets herself on fire,dies

Wife of Aditya Nandi died at a Bankura hospital after suffering 85% burns.

A day after her husband,Aditya Nandi,died in a militant attack in Srinagar on Monday,Piu Nandi,22,set herself on fire at her home in Taldangra,in Bankura district of West Bengal. She died at a Bankura hospital on Wednesday.

Her body has been kept in the hospital morgue,as family members have decided to perform the couple’s last rites together tomorrow. Aditya’s body is being brought to Kolkata tomorrow,from where it will be taken to his village in Bankura.

Aditya and Piu had married about a year-and-a-half back. Bankura SP Mukesh Kumar said Aditya had come home on a month’s leave and had left only on Saturday.

According to sources,Piu was informed about her husband’s death by the Bankura district administration on Tuesday. A little later,she set herself on fire. Neighbours rushed her to hospital,where they were informed that she had suffered 85 per cent burn injuries.

Hailing from a family of farmers,Aditya had moved to Taldangra from his village of Simlapal with his wife. His younger brother,Asim Nandi,is also trying to get into the Indian Army.

Eight Army personnel were killed by militants in Srinagar on Monday,a day before Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi were scheduled to visit the area.
