  • The web site of the GNIDA says there is “round-the-clock patrolling by mobile police vans for law and order maintenance” in Greater Noida. Yet, Graziano has said police took hours to arrive on the scene, and Choudhary might have been saved if only they had reached sooner.

While the company spokesperson said that in January, the workers had registered with AITUC, the CPI’s trade union wing, general secretary CPI’s Gurudas Dasgupta told The Indian Express that there was no such affiliation.

Outraged industry organizations said the lynching damages India’s image among global investors. “It is definitely a deterrent to industrial growth. The atmosphere should be safe and sound for industry,” Amitabh Nangia, Chairman, CII Western U P zonal council, said. Diljeet Titus, chairman of the Northern region committee of the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “Labour unrest takes place everywhere but it is unfortunate that in this particular incident, things went out of hand.”

The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce said the incident set a bad precedent for Uttar Pradesh, which needs investment and job opportunities. Assocham president Sajjan Jindal said, “The UP administration needs to take stringent action against those who have committed the gruesome act to restore confidence of investors in the state. Late on Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Mayawati announced an inquiry into the incident by the DIG, Meerut range. She said the incident was “unfortunate”, and her government was committed to the security of industry and entrepreneurs.

The Italian embassy expressed concern and hoped that the judicial system would prosecute the perpetrators. “The situation had been repeatedly brought to the attention of the competent Indian authorities both at Central and local level,” the Italian Embassy said in a statement today. “The incident is all the more worrying as Graziano Transmissioni, after many successful years, had been facing several months of violent forms of protests by self-proclaimed workers representatives”, it said.

Comment on Fernandes' statement to which he was forced to retract by the pressure of captains of corporate sector. By: Arun | 19-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward The corporate sector must take labour minister's statement as a warning and should go for a human face of management as industry or labour whatever be could not function not taking account the social situation prevailing around. How could it be said that the same management having no financial crunch for unimaginable amount as salary and perks for the management and serious financial crunch in case of payment to the wage board employees. How could you justify the fact that wage board journalists be denied even regular promotions for lat two decades and the same person when moved to the contract is given promotions on every year along with increase in salary and perks in different names. if such things continue how could a sensible person none think of avoiding such incidents. Neither the management nor the unions should think in impractica terms- Arun Kumar, General Secretary, Bihar Working Journalists Union, Vidyapati marg, Dakshini Mandiri, Patna.
Killing of CEOBy: Gaurav Kumar | 24-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward I was very sad when I read the news about killing. Oskar Fernandes statement was like insult to an injury. His statement assumed that it was management fault to an extent that it justified CEOs killing. I don't think that killing is justified for any criminal act unless approved by Judiciary. However, I got solace by deeper thinking and realizing that it came from veteran politician - had it come from anyone else, it would have been disaster. I am also not surprised that he is still holding his ministry. Manmohan Singh is crippled to take action and the high command has no better quality than Mr Oscar. I am curious to know what the young guns of Congress has to say on this issue. I personally regret for this happening in our country and hopefully everyone will introspect to avoid such griesly act in future.

Warning IndeedBy: John | 24-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Mr. Oscar Fernandes, is this warning by the AITUC (Congress' Union that was representing the workers) the same kind that Congress delivered to the Sikhs after Indira Gandhi's assasination
killing of CEOBy: shivkumar | 24-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward AITUC is a communist union. Iam sure INTUC would have been no better
