Shinde had claimed he was on duty when a white Fiat sped past the barricading. The car (UP 44 P 9516) had tinted glasses and traffic constable Rajendra Galve gestured to car driver to halt, he said.
Shukla allegedly did not pay heed and crossed the signal. Shinde and Gavle chased the car and intercepted it. When Shinde knocked on the car window, Shukla got out of the vehicle. "He (the driver) began abusing us. When we asked him to stop, he climbed onto the car and began shouting and jumping, shattering a window glass. He was threatening us. The woman who was with him abused us, too," Shinde said on Tuesday.
Shinde claimed that when he asked for Shukla's licence, he threatened him and held his collar. "He assaulted me and when Galve intervened, he was also beaten up by the driver," Shinde had said.
By the time Shinde brought the scriptwriter to Bangur Nagar police station, media had arrived at the police station. The duty officer was heard telling Shinde that he should have let the car pass and noted down the registration number.
The Bangur Nagar police had recorded the statements of Shinde, Shukla and witnesses. Following this, Ravindra Patil, senior inspector (Traffic), arrived, and was seen scolding Shinde.
Shukla had told the police that Shinde abused his female friend and damaged his car.
