Urdu journalist Mohammed Ahmad Kazmi was sent to Tihar Jail under judicial custody, three days before his remand was to end, after the Delhi Police hurriedly produced him before a city court on Saturday. Kazmi was arrested for providing logistical support to the three Iranian suspects involved in bomb attack on the car of an Israeli diplomat on February 13. Police said Kazmis interrogation was not required anymore,so they surrendered him in the court. We have interrogated him and his presence was not required. Our investigations are complete,so we decided to surrender him in the court three days before his remand was to end, said a police officer. Kazmi was arrested on March 6 near India Islamic Centre in Lodhi Colony, after Delhi Police got specific evidence regarding his links to the blast. Police had taken him into custody for 20 days and he was to be in remand till March 27. Kazmis younger son Turab said police did not inform the family when Kazmi was being produced in court. Our lawyer was present in court till 2.30 pm,but my father was not produced then. They (police) brought him around 3.30 pm and then he was sent to Tihar Jail. One of the police officers called us around 6.30 pm and informed us,we do not even know which jail he has been sent to, said Turab. Jail officials said Kazmi has been kept in the high-security ward of Jail 1. Delhi Police had identified three Iranian men Syed Ali Sadr Mahdian (50),Houshang Afshar Irani (40) and Abolghasemi Mohammad Reza (47) who allegedly had a hand in the attack. A red corner notice has been issued against the three and another accused,Sadaghatzadeh Masoud, who was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur airport in Malaysia on February 15,a day after the botched Bangkok blasts. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav sent Kazmi to judicial custody till April 7. The move comes after the Delhi Police was specifically told by CMM Yadav on March 21 not to permit any other probe agency to interrogate Kazmi. Kazmi had moved the court last week, alleging custodial harassment.
