Despite months of efforts by the district authorities, which included going door to door to update the voters’ list after the Lok Sabha elections in May, the voter turnout in the predominantly urban Gurgaon Assembly constituency was recorded at 54.25 per cent — the lowest this polls. This was much lower than the state average that stood at a record 72.71 per cent.
Results will be announced on October 22.
The 90 Assembly constituencies of Haryana recorded the highest-ever voter turnout in the state during the Vidhan Sabha elections, beating the previous record of 72.65 per cent in 1967.
The highest voter turnout of 87.25 per cent was recorded in Dabwali constituency of Sirsa district. Voter turnout in the district, meanwhile, came to 61.87 per cent, in which the Sohna Assembly segment registered the maximum of 69.88 per cent.
The local administration had set up voter assistance booths at eight locations in DLF and Palam Vihar areas, besides setting up 18 voter registration information centres (VRICs) at various spots in the city. Computerised search facility was available for voters, using which they could search for their names in the voters’ list. A voters’ helpline was also available.
To add to that, the administration had installed 30 hoardings, both in English and Hindi at different points in the city to inform residents of the helpline and the locations of the VRICs.
Details of the VRICs were also put up on the Gurgaon district administration’s website. The VRICs and the helplines remained functional during the entire polling process.
