DCB launches software to detect vehicle thefts

The Crime Branch Thursday launched a software — Eklavya — which will help police detect theft of vehicles in the city. Using this software, police will be able to get all the information about the vehicles seized by them.

Police said a database of engine and chassis numbers of the vehicles registered at the Regional Transport Office has been prepared. This data will be sent through SMSes to police officers probing vehicle theft cases. The DCB has connected the software to a server where phone numbers of all police officers have been stored.

"When investigators send a message to this number, details of the stolen vehicle and its owner would flash on their cellphones. This will help police trace stolen vehicles whose engine numbers and registration number plates are changed after robberies," DCP Crime Himanshu Shukla told reporters.
