  • After three hours of hectic parlaying at DDCA president Arun Jaitley's residence over candidates recommended by sports committee, the final list was released late Tuesday evening. Several candidates were rejected by the DDCA core committee — comprising of president, three vice-presidents, secretary and sports secretary — in the presence of sports committee convenor Vinod Tihara and others were reshuffled.

The entire selection panel for season 2009-210 seems like a compromise list that adheres to certain promises given to Sehwag and also upholding to the demands of executive and sports committee members. While the number of selectors has been reduced to four in Ranji and under-22 — Sehwag had asked for just three-member panel — other panels have five selectors on board on the insistence of sports committee.

Chetan Chauhan was named the chairman of Ranji selectors despite his name not figuring in the list forwarded by the sports committee while Sanjeev Sharma, the current junior national selector will overlook the under-22 batch. Vinay Lamba, who was originally in the Ranji list will now head the under-19 committee. Dev, who is named a convenor for all selection committee, is expected to convene the selection meeting in a couple of days.

In an innovative measure to bring in much-needed transparency in selection procedure, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) is contemplating cash incentives for the selectors, starting this season.

Under this scheme, the chairman and the entire selection committee will receive graded monetary rewards if their chosen state age-group team wins the national championships, finish runners-up or top the north zone league phase. DDCA top brass is hoping that such an initiative will further boost the morale of the selectors to pick the best talent and not accede to pressures from various quarters.
