DDU college staffer found dead on railway tracks

“Harvilas had a ticket from New Delhi till Aligarh. He called me up at 12.45 pm and at 1.15 pm,the incident happened. I cannot say if it was suicide or accident,but how does it matter? My brother is gone now,” Rajesh said.

Singh was a resident of Brijvasan,Southwest Delhi. His body has been taken to his native village in Pratapgarh,Uttar Pradesh,for the funeral.

“Harvilas was a permanent employee,but was suspended in June after three admission seekers complained that he was overcharging for prospectus and admission forms. We had constituted a committee and he had appeared before it. None of the family members have so far approached us for any help,but we will see what we can do,” said I S Bakshi,DDU Principal.

The workers’ union of the college has claimed that his suspension was not revoked,even though the three-member committee did not find any concrete evidence against him.

P K Parashar,a member of the union,said Singh had gone into depression after his “wrongful” suspension.

“Singh was responsible for the sale of the prospectuses and admission forms at Rs 50 and Rs 10,respectively. There were allegations that he had charged Rs 50 for admission forms from a few students. The students gave a written complaint,but none of them appeared before the inquiry as witnesses. Yet,Singh was suspended and was unemployed since then,” Parashar said.

Rajesh confirmed that Singh was in depression since he lost his job and would often say he was punished without fault.

Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters.
