The Indian contingent returned home after delivering their best-ever performance in an international cycling competition winning two gold, three silver and a bronze in the three-day long event. India had won two silver and two bronze at the home Asian championship in March. Meanwhile,Deborah and her compatriot Manorama Devi, who got two silver medals in Scratch and Point races, rejoined their overseas training camp in Korea.

Haryana’s Dilawar Singh, who opened India’s account at the Asian event, said he had practiced hard for the event and was happy to win silver in only his fourth international competition.

20-year-old Rutuja, too, hoped to carry on with her good performance in the future competitions as well.

Women’s coach accompanying the team,Usha T Nair credited change in mentality of Indian cyclists for their stupendous show at the Asia Cup. “Our cyclists now want to win medals. They are not satisfied by just participating, which is a promising sign. They are improving with every international competition. I sincerely hope they continue with the momentum,” Nair said.

Three races Junior Keirin (boys and girls) and Junior boys scratch were cancelled due to heavy rains. “We definitely missed out on more medals due heavy downpour as those were our favourite races,” she added.
