Decide on ‘minority’ status for Sanskrit: HC to Punjab, Haryana

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday gave two months to the Centre, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to take a decision over according "minority" status to Sanskrit. The directions were passed by the court while hearing a petition filed by social activist Hemant Goswami. The petitioner had said that Sanskrit, which is spoken by less than 15,000 people across the country, has not been considered till date by the government for according minority status and continues to be discriminated against.
