Lodged in a Faridkot juvenile home ever since he crossed over to India illegally to chase his Bollywood dreams, freedom is finally in sight for Nasir Sultan. The juvenile court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ferozepur, Jatinder Singh Behniwal, on Saturday discharged the case against him, paving the way for the repatriation of the young Pakistani teenager arrested in mid-August.
Well-placed sources told The Sunday Express that the court made its move after Ferozepur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dinesh Partap Singh withdrew the case from prosecution, exercising his authority to do so under Section 321 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Nasir, a die-hard fan of film star Shah Rukh Khan, will be shifted to a transit home in Amritsar soon, said sources.
The Union Government reportedly had recommended the Punjab authorities to drop the case against Nasir. Although SSP Singh refused to divulge any details, he said, “Necessary formalities are being completed in consultation with the Punjab DGP office”.
Nasir, meanwhile, is looking forward to heading back home. “I want to go back at the earliest and appear for my matriculation exams in March. I will give statements to newspapers to warn other youngsters not to do what I did,” Nasir told this correspondent on Saturday at the juvenile home in Faridkot. “I miss my three brothers, my parents and my grandfather.”
In Pakistan, his family members were at a loss for words. “Khuda aapko khush rakhe. Mere paas is par bolne ke liye alfaaz nahin hain (May God bless you. I do not have the words to react),” said Nasir’s father Sultan Zareen’s when The Indian Express called him.
