With a view to expedite investigation in the Beena Dedhia murder case the Additional Commissioner of Police, Central Region, Sadanand Date has asked officials from all the 20 police stations under his jurisdiction to question historysheeters, chain-snatchers and robbers in their records. The heightened police vigil has enabled cops crackdown on petty crimes.
The Dharavi police recently apprehended two bike-borne youths during a nakabandi. After questioning it was found that the bike they were riding was stolen.
“We knew that a biker duo had stabbed a woman in Kalachowki while trying to rob her and since then we were extra-attentive while checking bikes. After we nabbed the youths Feroz Sheikh and Mohammed Memon, who did not have any documents of the bike, we learnt that the bike with the same number plate had been stolen from Khar,” said an official from the Dharavi police.
R L Kulkarni of the Kalachowki police said that two chain-snatchers who were arrested by the Thane police on Thursday will be questioned. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone IV, Sanjay Baviskar said apart from a couple of chain snatchers arrested by the Antop Hill police, the Wadala T T police had arrested a youth with an unlicensed firearm of foreign-make worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
Dedhia was murdered in Kalachowki last week while on a morning walk. The assailants robbed her of a gold chain and cash and slit her throat when she refused to part with her earrings.
“Sketches of the two accused have been sent to all the police stations in the city. Police inspectors (crime) as well as the detection teams from all the 20 police stations falling under my jurisdiction have been directed to be on the lookout for accused who have a criminal record of chain snatching and robbery,” said Date.
